14K Yellow Gold Antique Onyx and Old European-Cut Diamond Ring

This striking antique ring is crafted in rich 14K yellow gold and centred with a bold elongated oval onyx measuring 35 mm × 17 mm, dramatically held in place by 14 finely spaced prongs that emphasize its impressive scale and sleek, polished surface. Adorning the top of the onyx is a freeform white gold foliate overlay, expertly worked into an organic vine of stems and leaves that flows with graceful movement. At its heart are two floral accents, each set with a 0.15 ct old European-cut diamond, representing blossoms atop their stems. The leaves are accented with six additional smaller old European-cut diamonds, while the stem extends outward into the freeform shape with 28 more old European-cut diamonds. The warm yellow gold band is highly polished and meets a uniquely scalloped undergallery, formed by the multi-prong onyx setting, offering both visual interest and comfortable wear. The combination of dramatic onyx, elaborate white gold overlay, and a profusion of old European-cut diamonds suggests this ring likely dates from the late Victorian to early Edwardian period (circa 1890–1915), when bold gemstone contrasts and intricate hand worked metal were hallmarks of fine jewellery design.
