Product Overview

This antique 14K gold diamond ring is a beautifully balanced example of early 20th-century craftsmanship, showcasing both refined detail and timeless romantic design. At its centre, three prong-set old European cut diamonds are arranged horizontally across a white gold setting, with the slightly larger 0.31 carat stone flanked by two 0.14-carat companions. Delicate milgrain detailing separates each diamond, adding texture and subtle definition, while a yellow gold double-tiered border frames the trio with warmth and contrast.

The ring’s construction reflects thoughtful artistry from every angle. A wide, high polished, gently sloping shank rises to meet the framed centrepiece, while an intricately pierced scroll motif adorns the undergallery at both the front and back, an elegant finishing touch that speaks to the attention given even to unseen details. Inside the band, the engraved inscription “12 - 25” offers a personal note, likely commemorating a meaningful date such as the recipient’s birthday. Based on its design elements, particularly the use of old European cut diamonds, milgrain accents, and the combination of white and yellow gold, this ring was most likely produced between the 1910s and 1930s, spanning the late Edwardian into the early Art Deco period. This era was known for its transition toward lighter, more intricate settings that emphasized the brilliance and individuality of each stone.

Old European cut diamonds themselves are a defining feature of antique jewelry from this time. Popular from approximately 1890 to 1930, these diamonds were cut entirely by hand, resulting in stones that are subtly unique from one another. Characterized by a round outline, high crown, small table, and a visible culet, they produce a softer, more romantic play of light, often described as a warm “glow” rather than the sharp sparkle of modern cuts. Their larger, chunkier facets were designed to catch and reflect candlelight, giving them a distinctive charm.
