The large silver dollar commemorates bicentennial of the first full-length voyage of the Mackenzie river all the way to the Arctic Ocean by Alexander Mackenzie in 1789. The nickel dollar design features an Indigenous person and a Voyageur travelling on a canoe. Other denominations include the 50-cent coin which features the Canadian coat of arms, a 25-cent coin featuring the familiar caribou, a 10-cent coin featuring the Bluenose schooner, a five-cent coin featuring the iconic beaver, and a one-cent coin with the maple twig design.
