Product Overview
Since they were first introduced in 2015, every Big Coins Series has sold out immediately from the Royal Canadian Mint, and most have appreciated in value in the secondary market. 2019 represents the last of the classic round five-ounce fine-silver Big Coins before they were replaced in 2020 with the new Real Shape series, and it's also the lowest mintage of the five-year series at just 1,250. This complete 2019 set also comes with a classic regular size coin 2019 proof set as an exclusive bonus.

This large and impressive coin set includes seven different five-ounce fine-silver coins. Denominations include a special-issue flying-loon-design dollar, a polar-bear two-dollar coin, a coat-of-arms half dollar, a caribou quarter, a Bluenose dime, a beaver nickel and a maple-leaf-design penny. Each coin is enhanced with reverse gold plating, adding a warm-toned gleam that creates a beautiful contrast next to the silver shine of the engraved relief and provides brilliant contrast to the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.

The seven coins come attractively presented in a large mahogany finish wooden case. For collectors of the absolute best, Big Coins are highly sought-after as Canada's highest-quality and lowest-mintage annual set of all the familiar denominations.

Flying Loon Dollar
The reverse features a re-creation of the iconic flying loon design first created to mark the 10th anniversary of Canada's loon dollar in 1997. The design by Canadian artist Jean-Luc Grondin presents a striking image of a loon taking flight. Reverse gold plating fills the field while the coin's silver surface draws the eye to the engraved relief.

25-Cent Caribou
The design features Emanuel Hahn's iconic caribou design which was first issued in 1937. With a number of notable exceptions, the design has been used continuously on Canadian quarters for over 80 years, but it appears most impressive and majestic in this large format. Reverse gold plating fills the field while the coin's silver surface draws the eye to the engraved relief.

10-Cent Bluenose Schooner
This coin features Emanuel Hahn's iconic schooner design. With only two exceptions, it has been used continuously on Canadian dimes since its first appearance in 1937, but it appears most impressive in this large format.  Reverse gold plating fills the field while the coin's silver surface draws the eye to the engraved relief.

Five-Cent Beaver
The reverse features artist G. E. Kruger-Gray's iconic image of the right profile of a beaver standing on a rock surrounded by water. With a few exceptions, it has been used continuously on Canadian nickels since its first appearance in 1937, but it appears most impressive in this large format. Reverse gold plating fills the field while the coin's silver surface draws the eye to the engraved relief.

50-Cent Coat of Arms

The reverse features artist Thomas Shingles iconic image of the Canadian coat of arms. With a few exceptions, it has been used continuously on Canadian half dollars since its first appearance in 1959, when a modified coat of arms was adopted. It included a ribbon bearing A mari usque ad mare ("From sea to sea"), but it appears most impressive in this large format. Reverse gold plating fills the field while the coin's silver surface draws the eye to the engraved relief.

Two-Dollar Polar Bear
The reverse of this five-ounce pure silver version of the two-dollar coin features Brent Townsend's image of an adult polar bear standing on an ice floe, gazing out over the early summer Arctic landscape. With a number of notable exceptions, this design has been used continuously on Canadian "toonies" since 1996. Reverse gold plating fills the field while the coin's silver surface draws the eye to the engraved relief.

One-Cent Maple Leaves
The cent denomination was retired for circulation in 2012. The classic design introduced in 1937 features a sprig of two maple leaves, now enhanced with reverse gold plating.

Bonus: 2019 Proof Set

The silver dollar in this set marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day showing Canadian soldiers landing on Juno Beach. Denominations include the five-cent, 10-cent, 25-cent, 50-cent, loon-style dollar, commemorative silver dollar and two-dollar coins. The commemorative silver dollar coin is further enhanced with selective colour.
