This unusual large-format coin provides a unique and fascinating perspective of our solar system. Combining both high-relief coining and colour elements, the sun and planets are presented together in an elliptical shape representing the orbit of the planets around the sun, with a shimmering background filled with stars. This is a substantial piece, with a weight of one kilogram of fine silver and a width of more than seven inches. The mintage is limited to just 199 pieces, which substantially adds to its collectability.
The design features a view of the Sun together with the eight planets, which are artfully arranged in order of distance from the sun (nearest to farthest): Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The earth's moon is also presented orbiting around our home planet. The coin has a $25 legal tender status in Solomon Islands, and includes the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
