Estate Originals 18K White Gold South Sea Pearl and Diamond Ring

This elegant ring is crafted in 18K white gold and features a 10.10mm off-round shaped South Sea pearl at its centre. The pearl exhibits a cream body colour with pinkish and greenish overtones. On each side of the pearl is a small channel, each containing three baguette cut diamonds that combine for 0.10 carats. A three-dimensional scrolled top frames the pearl and baguettes in a split 'V' fancy formation. Twenty-eight diamonds divided fourteen per side, and further divided seven per scroll, decorate the entire top. These twenty-eight diamonds combine for a half carat, bringing the total diamond weight to 0.60 carats. The high polished band divides into a split just below the diamonds.

South Sea pearls range from 8mm to 20mm, with the average being around 12mm. Their large size, limited culturing area, and extended growth period (2-4 years, unlike the akoya pearls which develop in less than half that time) all combine to make the South Sea variety the rarest of all pearl types. The luster of South Seas pearls, whether white or golden, is soft and luxurious, displaying a soft reflection from the large aragonite platelets that make up the pearl. They also have the thickest average nacre of all cultured pearls. These factors make South Seas both distinctive and valuable. South Sea pearls have the highest value and command the highest prices of all types of pearls. Being a delicate organism, this type of pearl oyster is particularly susceptible to disease and stress, which is one reason why the culturing area for South Seas pearls is quite limited. White South Sea pearls generally retain the highest value of all pearl types. Because of their scarcity and unusually large size range, they command much higher prices.
