2023 Half Dollar Coin Roll of King Charles III

2023 will likely be one of the most sought after of all modern Canadian half dollars. It is also the only year in Canada in which coins were issued with two different monarchs. This 2023 special issue roll of 25 brilliant uncirculated half dollar coins was issued in November of 2023, and the first to feature the new effigy of King Charles III. The entire issue sold out from the Royal Canadian Mint within minutes of issue, and the coins can now be challenging to find in the secondary market.

The coins are presented in a special wrap rolls with a green band marking the first issue of the new king. Mintage is limited to 25,000 rolls.  

The half dollar denomination in Canada dates back to 1870 and was for many decades the most important high value denomination in circulation.  While this now unusual denomination has not been available through the banking system for more than 30 years, its legacy survives through special low mintage collector coins still issued by the Royal Canadian Mint.
