This 14kt yellow gold AMERICAN WALTHAM CO. hunter case pocket watch has a 51mm case diameter, a round shaped white coloured dial with black Arabic hour markers and red Arabic numerals on the outside edge of the dial at 5 minute intervals. It has blue tinted metallic hands and a 60 second sub-dial at the 6 o'clock. There is a 15 Jewel adjusted movement #15623108 and the case number is 117582. Both the front and back covers are engraved with a fancy floral, leaf and bird design and the initials 'R S' are engraved in script on the front. A second cover opens to reveal the movement on the back while a textured panel frames the perimeter.
American Waltham was in operation between 1852 and 1957, over 40 million fine specimens of pocket watches, wrist watches, clocks and other precision instruments were produced by the Waltham factory. It was one of the most prolific American watch companies and by the early 1870s Waltham watches were winning prizes all over the world. They remain popular and highly collectable.
