Product Overview

1946 is one of the scarcest five dates of Canadian silver dollars ever issued, with both a low original mintage and a very low survival rate in uncirculated condition. This exceptional coin is an original choice uncirculated example recently found in one of a handful of original mint rolls put away over 75 years ago. It has been independently third-party certified as Mint State 62 by ICCS (International Coin Certification Service). This high grade significantly adds to the coin's rarity, visual appeal and value.

While most business-strike coins from this era show numerous bag marks and other surface imperfections from the manufacturing process and from transportation to the banking system, this is a premium, above-average coin with a full sharp strike and fewer than typical surface marks. Attesting to its originality, the surface may have some modest light golden toning or oxidation. The coin comes sealed in a tamper-proof holder from ICCS.

The classic design features an Indigenous person and a voyageur paddling a canoe. In the canoe are bundles of goods; the bundles at the right are marked with "HB," representing the Hudson's Bay Company. The vertical lines in the background represent the aurora borealis. The obverse design features an uncrowned portrait of King George VI.
