Product Overview

Collect the highest-quality coins issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1957 with this extremely scarce premium-quality set of proof-like coins presented in a mahogany finish display case. All six coin denominations issued in 1957 are included: the penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half-dollar and silver dollar. By using specially prepared dies, additional striking pressure and slow-moving coining presses, the mint was able to produce these virtually flawless coins with a mirror-like finish. This particular set is a premium-quality example with exceptional surfaces and a brilliant appearance. While the original mintage was just 11,862 sets, the survival rate today is much lower.

The obverse of the coins in this set features the laureate portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. A young portrait of the Queen was used on all of the coins from the beginning of the Queen's reign in 1953 until 1964.

One of the highlights of this collection is the 1957 Voyageur silver dollar. The design on the dollar coin is the same design as was on Canada's first dollar coin issued in 1935. It features an Indigenous person and a Voyageur (a travelling agent for a fur company), paddling a canoe past a small island with two wind-swept trees. The vertical lines in the background represent the Northern Lights.

The half-dollar is also a beautiful coin, featuring an intricate coat-of-arms design. The fronts of the penny, nickel, dime and quarter are the familiar designs still used today (except for the penny, which is no longer in circulation).
