The Proof set is the highest quality coin set struck by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1984.
The coins in this set are "Proof" quality, the finest coins minted. They are all double struck coins produced from specially prepared dies. The fields (that is, the flat background areas on the coins) have a bright deep mirror finish, while the design and portrait of the Queen have a white frosted finish. This extremely attractive effect is sometimes referred to as a "cameo proof", and can only be obtained in the Proof Sets.
The dollar design features a Native Canadian and a Voyageur (a travelling agent for a fur company), paddling a canoe past a small island with two wind swept trees. The vertical lines in the background represent the northern lights. A fifty cent coin is also included featuring the Canadian Coat-of-arms.
This high quality coin set comes presented in a custom mahogany finish display case.
