Product Overview

The Royal Canadian Mint and Canada Post collaborated to issue this coin and stamp set. The story of currencies used in Canada is a rich part of the country's heritage. From wampum and playing cards to tokens and Sols, currencies used to facilitate trade evolved continually. With Confederation came the Canadian dollar, but this country's currency was produced elsewhere until 1908.

50-Cent Coin
Royal Canadian Mint engravers reproduced the coin's design from an original 50-cent struck at the Mint in 1908. Its design includes a double-date (1908–2008), a crown and a wreath of maple leaves flanking the sides. An effigy of King Edward VII is featured on the obverse of the coin. The face value of this proof coin is 50 cents, with a weight of 11.8 grams and a diameter of 29.72 mm.

Postage Stamp Design
The commemorative stamp depicts the first coin struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa. The selvage depicts the obverse of the coin. The stamp (domestic rate 52 cents) was created using embossing to give the impression that an actual coin was dropped on the stamp.
