2011 1/25-Ounce Pure Gold Coin Wood Bison

This 1/25-ounce gold coin features the wood bison that once dominated the western plains. It was a critical source of food and materials for First Nations communities that virtually collapsed when over-hunting by Europeans decimated bison populations. Conservation efforts have begun to re-establish bison populations, but they remain far below their former million-mark. 

First Nations artist Corrine Hunt has brought her distinctive vision of traditional Kwakwaka'wakw and Tlingit forms to create this special-edition collectible.
