Product Overview

This is the Royal Canadian Mint's first silver kilo to feature selective gold plating. This numismatic tribute to Canada's treasured national symbol has been sought after by collectors since its launch in 2007.

Canada is home to ten maple species, including the Douglas and Sugar. Both species have been a crucial source throughout Canadian history in building implements like snowshoes, fishing tools, bows, and creating some of the world’s finest maple syrup.

The reverse image, by Canadian artist Emily Demstra, features a Douglas maple leaf overlapping a Sugar maple leaf, and enhanced with selective gold plating. Proudly perched upon their delicately crossed stems the leaves portray the characteristic elements of each species of Acer. The five-lobed, lacy-toothed Douglas leaf is deeply lined with numerous veins. The Sugar leaf, by contrast, illustrates the sparsely veined, relatively smooth-edged, and almost graphical traits of its species.
