Product Overview

This $20 fine silver coin is a representation of stained glass from Craigdarroch Castle and Casa Loma. The translucent glass-like enamel makes the coin shine and reflect the light, alluding to the ethereal light-play that actual stained glass creates. The elegant enamel is hand-filled into individual crevices, mimicking the task of creating stained glass. The beautiful designs are struck into one ounce of fine silver.

The coin is crafted in honour of the stunning McCausland stained-glass dome in Toronto, Ontario's Casa Loma. At the heart of the disc lies a raised, polished silver circle framed with engraved rays. The image is divided into four quadrants by raised silver lines. Each of the four lines bears a stylized cluster of nine purple grapes. These four clusters are separated from each other by dark green leaves set against a lighter green engraved background. A golden vine encircles the central portion of the image. The outer rim of the image is lined with alternating light green segments.

Casa Loma is a Gothic Revival–style house and gardens in midtown Toronto, now a museum and landmark. It was originally a residence for financier Sir Henry Pellat and was constructed over a three-year period from 1911 to 1914. It boasts 98 rooms, 30 bathrooms, 25 fireplaces, three bowling alleys, a shooting gallery, a wine cellar capable of holding 1,700 bottles, an incomplete 18-metre-long indoor swimming pool, and a 243-metre tunnel constructed six metres underground which connects Casa Loma to the stables across the street.
