2014 O Canada $25 Scenic Skiing

This 2014 $25 one-ounce fine silver coin is part of the Royal Canadian Mint's "O Canada" series which showcases coins with beloved Canadian imagery. Here we see the pastime of skiing, an activity that is believed to date back as far as 4500 BCE. Originally used by ancient Scandinavians as a method of moving across snow-covered land more efficiently, it remained a practical method of transportation until about 1860, when it began to be enjoyed recreationally. The coin was designed by Canadian artist Kendra Dixson and features a downhill skier enjoying a run down the mountain.
