2016 Caribou Quarter Big Coin Five-Ounce Fine Silver with Colour

This large five-ounce pure silver 2016 25-cent Big Coin features selective colour which brings the intricate design of the caribou to life in a way never seen before. This coin and all others in the series sold out within minutes of release from the RCM, with 2016 Big Coins now extremely difficult to obtain in the secondary market. With a mintage of just 1,500 coins for one of Canada's premier-quality annual proof coins, this is an extremely limited issue with demand significantly greater than the quantity produced. As a pure silver coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt.

First introduced in 1937, the caribou on the 25-cent denomination has become a classic symbol of Canada. While a regular caribou quarter has a diameter of 24 mm and a weight of just 4.4 grams in base metal, this huge caribou quarter with selective colour has a diameter of 65 mm and has a weight of over 155 grams, or 5 ounces, in pure silver. This is about equal to the weight of 35 regular quarters. The coin is double-struck to ensure fine detail and a near-flawless surface, while the design is further enhanced with selective colour, highlighting the coin's main design.
