2018 $20 Fine Silver Proof Coin Nature's Impressions: Wolf

This 2018 $20 fine silver coin features the ever-vigilant wolf, which keeps a watchful eye on its territory in the winter-themed reverse, where each step leaves a crisp impression in the snow, and on the coin's edge. This third coin in the Nature's Impressions series tracks the wolf, whose paw prints are indicative of an elusive hunter who always moves with purpose. 

The reverse design by Canadian artist Claudio D'Angelo features a side view of a wolf in Canada's boreal forest. Among the tall spruce trees, the wolf has made its way to the crest of a snow-covered hill, where it pauses to survey the frozen lake below. Its head is turned to the left, which allows a glimpse of its facial features. Throughout this winter scene, the combination of engraving and various finishing techniques adds striking depth to the design—especially the crisp impression of the wolf's four-toed tracks, which are also engraved on the coin's edge in a continuous pattern.
