2018 $3 Pure Silver 13 Coin Subscription, Teachings From Grandmother Moon

Canada’s Indigenous people view every aspect of nature as a living relation that plays an active role in their lives, and Grandmother Moon is ever-present, making 13 appearances throughout the year as she watches over Mother Earth’s children and lights up their paths.   This 13 coin set includes all 13 different appearances of the full moon in 2018, with each telling a native Canadian story and relaying a traditional teaching.  Each coin is struck in pure silver with a $3 denomination and a weight of about one quarter of an ounce.  Mintage for each coin is just 4,000, adding collectability and scarcity to the collection.

The first “Spirit Moon” design coin will ship now, with 12 additional coins to follow approximately one per month.  Additional coins will include Bear Moon, Sugar Moon, Sucker Moon, Flower Moon, Strawberry Moon, Raspberry Moon, Thimbleberry Moon, Corn Moon, Falling Leaves Moon, Freezing Moon, Little Spirit Moon and Big Spirit Moon.  Each design has been created by Algonquin artist Frank Polson.  Each coin in the series is $49.95, and will be charged as each is released and shipped.  As pure silver coins issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, all 13 coins are HST/GST exempt.

The January Spirit Moon design features a captivating image of a full moon filling the sky as it sits low on the horizon behind a leafless tree. To the left, a man wears an eagle headdress as he honours the majestic messenger and calls upon it to carry his prayers to the Creator. The use of bold lines, and the insertion of vivid colour within black areas as if to reveal what lies within, is a signature design element in woodland art. January is a time to honour the stillness and reflect upon our place within creation. Our thoughts turn to the eagle, the majestic messenger that carries our thoughts and prayers to the Creator. As our spirituality grows, so does our respect for this powerful bird. Those who have earned the honour may wear an eagle headdress as they pray, and we give thanks whenever the eagle shows itself—healing and support are on the way.
