2022 (2023 Issue) $20 Fine Silver Coin Queen Elizabeth's Royal Cypher with Rhodium Plating

Pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with this black-rhodium-plated $20 fine silver coin featuring her royal cypher. The coin is a new 2023 issue, although it simply bears the double dates of the Queen's 70-year reign, "1952–2022."

One of the most recognizable symbols of a historic reign, the royal cypher of Queen Elizabeth II was the monarch's identifier, and most Canadians are used to seeing it imprinted in the insignia of orders, decorations, medals and badges. The personal device of Queen Elizabeth II was synonymous with the crown and served as a symbol of sovereignty in Canada for 70 years. It has been re-created and forever preserved on this tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, the keeper of continuity who also advanced the monarchy into the modern age.  

The obverse features a special tribute design combining the four effigies of Queen Elizabeth that have graced Canadian coinage since her coronation in 1953. The effigies span from the young Queen at the age of 27 at her coronation, to the most recent effigy used through her 2022 platinum jubilee in 2022.

Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926, and acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952 upon the death of her father, King George VI. Her coronation was held on June 2, 1953.  Her Majesty ruled with grace and dignity for more than 70 years until her death on September 8, 2022.
