2023 First Coins of King Charles III Uncirculated Coin Set

For the first time in 70 years, this complete 2023 numismatic uncirculated coin set presents the inaugural issue of Canadian coins featuring the effigy of a new monarch. The new effigy of King Charles III appears on all six different denominations including the half dollar, with all six coins sealed in a protective inert plastic and displayed in an attractive green presentation. This set sold out from the Royal Canadian Mint almost immediately when first issued, and can be challenging to find in the secondary market today.

While the Royal Canadian Mint continued to strike 2022 dated Queen Elizabeth coins through most of 2023, the very first King Charles coins dated 2023 were struck on November 14th, 2023. This left only about five weeks of production time for 2023 dated coins, with all production scheduled to switch to 2024 dated coins in the first week of January 2024. This introduction of a new design so late in the year is unusual, and has led to speculation that the 2023 dated King Charles III coins will be a much lower than normal mintage and will be highly collectible in years to come.

The set includes the Polar Bear design $2, the Common Loon $1, Coat of Arms half dollar, Caribou quarter, Bluenose dime and Beaver nickel.
