In 2002, the Bank of Canada discontinued the $5 1986 Birds series notes and introduced the new Journey series. The last 50,000 notes issued in the Birds series were saved by the Bank of Canada and put together with the first 50,000 notes of the new Journey series. The bank then matched identical serial numbers to create a set called Lasting Impressions.
