The Temple of Artemis was double the size of other Greek temples including the Parthenon, and stood out as an architectural marvel for nearly six centuries. While only ruins remain of the great temple today, the Temple of Artemis it was once the preeminent structure in the important ancient city of Ephesus, now in modern-day Turkey. The temple's different construction phases stretched across several centuries, starting in the eighth century BCE to around 350 BCE. The last reconstruction of the temple remained one of the great wonders of the ancient world for more than 600 years, until it was destroyed by the Goths during a raid in 268 CE.
