Product Overview

This comprehensive collection includes 50 different historic coins of Newfoundland dating from 1876 to 1947. Thirty-nine coins in the collection are struck in silver, and 25 coins are at least 100 years old. The coins come protected in acrylic coin holders and displayed in two custom presentation cases.

Prior to joining Canadian Confederation in 1949, Newfoundland issued its own series of coinage. Prior to 1908, most of these coins were struck at the Royal Mint in England, as were Dominion of Canada coins. When the Royal Canadian Mint opened in 1908, Newfoundland coins began being struck in Canada. After Newfoundland joined Confederation, all coins of Newfoundland became legal tender currency of Canada, and some coins circulated for a brief time across the country. Many of these coins have extremely low mintages and are scarce numismatic collectibles.
