Product Overview
Queen Elizabeth's died in September 2022, but it wasn't until November 2023 that the Royal Canadian Mint was ready to strike the first coins featuring the new monarch, King Charles III. In the meantime, the mint continued to produce 2022-dated Queen Elizabeth II coins for circulation, but only 7,000 rolls of each denomination issued for circulation and 15,000 rolls of half-dollars were produced in special wrap collector rolls bearing the 2023 date and the familiar regular-issue coin designs. This makes these coins some of the lowest mintages ever for Canadian regular-design coins normally issued for circulation.
These rolls all sold out immediately from the Royal Canadian Mint and can be challenging for collectors to find. A small 1952–2022 memorial double-date showing the years of Queen Elizabeth's reign is also included on each coin, which further adds to their collectability.
Official 2023 RCM special-issue rolls include the two-dollar polar bear design (25 coins), the one-dollar common loon (25 coins), the 50-cent coat-of-arms (25 coins), the 25-cent caribou (40 coins), the 10-cent Bluenose (50 coins) and the five-cent beaver (40 coins). The six rolls will come carefully wrapped in bubble wrap without a case.
