Product Overview

These three $10 fine silver coins take us back to the age of the dinosaurs. The scientific accuracy of these depictions has been verified by paleontologists at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology. Each coin weighs one half-ounce of fine silver, and a diameter of 34 mm.

The Quetzalcoatlus - Terror of the Sky $10 Fine Silver Coin
This coin features the largest creature ever known to fly, the Quetzalcoatlus. During the late Cretaceous period 68 to 66 million years ago, this massive winged dinosaur soared over what is now North America with a wingspan of about 10 to 11 metres.

The design shows the dinosaur in flight with one wing bent and one outstretched. Its long beak is open as if in the middle of a cry, as it prepares to find its prey. Rays of sunlight can be seen as they peek through the clouds above the mountain in the distance.

The Styracosaurus - The Spiked Lizard $10 Fine Silver Coin
This formidable herbivore, with its long nasal horn and six horns that extend out from behind its neck frill, is shown in the sub-tropical environment of its era during the Cretaceous period about 75 million years ago.

The design shows the dinosaur in three-quarter profile with selective colour, creating the impression that the dinosaur is stampeding towards the viewer. Surrounding this ceratopsian dinosaur is the lush, semi-tropical vegetation that dominated Alberta during the Late Cretaceous period. The positioning of the dinosaur allows for a close view of the single nasal horn that gives this herbivore an intimidating appearance. Glancing towards the bony frill, the uppermost pair of horns rise up, while the lower horns are pointed to the side; even the pointed jugal horn on its cheek is visible.

The Edmontonia - The Armoured Tank $10 Fine Silver Coin
This ankylosaur is well-equipped to protect itself, and was one of the last armoured herbivores of the late Cretaceous period about 75 million years ago.

The design shows the dinosaur in three-quarter profile with selective colour, creating the impression that the dinosaur is lumbering across the landscape on its four powerful legs. His spike-covered armour protects its neck, back and tail. The lush vegetation that dominated Alberta during the Late Cretaceous period fills the background. The positioning of the dinosaur allows for a close view of the imposing appearance of Edmontonia.
