Product Overview
Graceful and evocative of an earlier era, this antique 12K white and yellow gold brooch beautifully showcases the refined craftsmanship and ornamental style characteristic of the late Victorian to early Edwardian period (circa 1880–1910). At its crest sits a vibrant 1.83 ct round citrine, bezel-set in warm yellow gold, radiating a sunny glow that immediately draws the eye.
Beneath the citrine, an intricate pierced white gold scroll motif unfolds in a sweeping, open design. The upper arc curves upward in a gentle semicircle, transitioning into scalloped scroll flourishes that blossom gracefully toward the base. Nestled within these curves are four cultured pearls: a 3.5 mm pearl centred along the top arc, two slightly smaller pearls set symmetrically at each side, and a slightly larger pearl placed below the first in the open heart of the design.
Accenting the scrolling framework are twenty-five rose-cut diamonds, each contributing subtle, antique sparkle. Three of these diamonds are bezel set at the very tips of the scrolls, lending emphasis to the piece’s most dramatic flourishes. Rose-cut diamonds, first popular in the 16th century and treasured throughout the Victorian era, are recognized by their domed, faceted tops and flat bases.
Their gentle glimmer, less fiery than modern brilliant cuts, enhances the brooch's romantic, old-world character. The reverse is fitted with a traditional ‘C’ clasp, typical of 19th-century jewellery, further supporting its period authenticity.
12k gold became common in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, providing a balance of durability and affordability. The 'C' clasp was most popular through the Victorian era until around 1910. It consists of a pin and a C-shaped catch that holds the pin through tension.
