Product Overview

This fancy 14K white gold ring is centred with a 3.02-carat oval tanzanite displaying a lovely blue/purple colour with rose flashes. The stone is set within multiple prongs which serve to raise it slightly from the diamond clusters below. The 24 round, brilliant-cut diamonds are arranged in four step pyramid clusters of six diamonds each. The band splits into five rows of pierced wires, each extending in assorted heights to reach the tiered diamonds. The 24 diamonds combine for 0.72 carats.

Five hundred and fifty years ago, in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mother Nature yielded her most precious of all gems. As testimony to its rarity, tanzanite remained unknown until 1967 when it was discovered in Tanzania, at what is the still the world's only known source. It is the blue-and-violet variety of the mineral zoisite and is noted for its remarkably strong trichroism, appearing alternately blue, violet and burgundy depending on crystal orientation and can also appear differently when viewed under different lighting conditions. The gemstone was given the name tanzanite by Tiffany & Co. after Tanzania, the country in which it was discovered. The American Gem Trade Association chose tanzanite as a December birthstone.
