This stunning lavaliere style necklace is crafted in 14K white gold and platinum. A 0.77 carat pear shaped diamond is surrounded in halo fashion by twelve diamonds that graduate in size. A marquise cut and 0.20 carat round brilliant cut diamond support the pear-shaped halo as it drops from the 14K white gold chain. On both sides of the chain, towards the drop, are four alternating marquise and round brilliant cut diamonds. The cable link chain measures approximately 17" in length and secures with a rectangular shaped box clasp and safety latch. The nine marquise cut diamonds combine for 0.66 carats, the twenty diamonds total 0.80 carats and when combined with the pear and larger round brilliant cut diamond, the total weight is an impressive 2.43 carats.
A lavaliere can be recognized for its drop, usually consisting of a stone and/or a chandelier pendant, which is attached directly to the chain, not by a bale. In the 1800s this style would become popular and continue into the Edwardian era. The word lavaliere comes from the name of a mistress of King Louis XIV of France, Duchesse Louise de La Vallière (1644-1710). She is remembered for her style and her piety; after having four children with the king, she left the court in 1674 and spent the rest of her life as a Carmelite nun.
