Product Overview

This 14K yellow gold ring by indigenous artist David Neel is a piece that embodies both elegance and cultural significance in its hand carved depiction of the Eagle. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the ring features a majestic eagle design inspired by indigenous artistry. The fierce gaze and curved beak of the eagle are beautifully captured in the design, making it a powerful symbol of strength and freedom. The piece is as meaningful as it is visually stunning, and is signed on the inside by the artist.

David Neel is a multimedia Northwest Coast Indian artists and jeweller from the Kwakiutl First Nation of Vancouver Island and has done both traditional and contemporary artwork for the past 35 years. He began his career as a photographer in the USA before returning to the traditions of his ancestors in Vancouver, where he apprenticed as a carver for 2 years. His credits include several photographic documentaries, two books, a series of contemporary masks, prints and he has as a permanent exhibition at the tribes museum. He carved a 32’ canoe that is now on display at a Vancouver sky-train station. He is a fifth-generation artist and was introduced to hand engraving by his uncle, Bob Neel and fell into jewellery design because of his interest in Kwakiutl design and knowledge of traditional N.W. coast Native art.

The Native Eagle symbol known as “the master of skies” is believed to be the creature with the closest relationship with the creator. Soaring to great heights, he can travel between the physical and spiritual world and is said to be a messenger to the creator. The Eagle is revered for its beauty, regal nature and signifies focus, strength, peace, leadership, spirituality, friendship and ultimate prestige. The wings symbolize balance and co-dependency between females and males and how each gender must work together to achieve harmonious results. The feathers were only allowed to be worn by those who had earned the privilege and were believed to transmit strength and the ability to speak honestly from the heart, without hurt or anger. The middle vane symbolizes the path that every person walks in their lifetime, and every barb that comes off the middle vane symbolizes the choices we all have in life, and that every choice we make is attached to the middle or main path that we take.
