14K Yellow Gold Synthetic Ruby and Sapphire Scrolled Dome Ring

This rich looking ring is centered with a bezel-set 1.08 carat oval shaped synthetic ruby with vibrant red colour. The dome style band exhibits pierced scrolled designed shoulders with a trimmed pattern of round shaped sapphires; they intersect the scroll on the sides while flowing into a halo surrounding the ruby, providing a double row at the top and bottom. The twenty-eight sapphires combine for 1.05 carats.  

Synthetic rubies look just like natural ones, but they're created by scientists in labs. Since they have the same physical and chemical structure as a natural ruby, synthetic rubies are still considered real. They just take months to form rather than millions of years. Ruby is aluminum oxide coloured red by chromium. Synthetic ruby is often made by simply melting aluminum oxide that contains a trace of chromium. The resulting crystal has the same internal atomic structure as natural ruby as well as the same optical properties, hardness, and chemical composition. They are very durable, and often more so than naturally-mined rubies. They tend to have a deep, rich colour that is very saturated and evenly distributed. This is often difficult to find in naturally mined rubies.
