14K Yellow Gold Vintage 6.79 ctw Octagon-Cut Amethyst Ring

This antique ring is a bold yet refined expression of early 20th-century design, crafted in 14K yellow gold and centered with an impressive 6.79 carat octagon cut amethyst. The richly saturated violet gemstone is secured by an intricate arrangement of twelve split prongs, four at the top corners and four at the bottom, each pair delicately divided to embrace the stone’s angles, with two additional split prongs on either side. This setting not only ensures security but also accentuates the crisp geometry of the octagonal cut. 

Beneath the amethyst lies a diamond-cut white gold oval platform, intentionally visible beyond the edges of the stone. This detail introduces a subtle shimmer and contrast, allowing light to play across the exposed metal. The platform itself is supported by a high-polished yellow gold base, creating a warm foundation that enhances the vibrancy of the amethyst. The shoulders are particularly architectural in their execution. Each begins with a white gold rectangular, diamond-cut step, which then tapers into three progressively smaller segments, forming a stylized triangular motif on either side. 

These raised white gold elements span gracefully from the yellow gold band up to the base of the setting, and are framed by the smooth, polished yellow gold beneath, emphasizing both depth and structure. The combination of strong geometric lines, mixed metals, and stepped, tapering shoulder design points to the Art Deco period. This ring was most likely crafted in the 1920s to early 1930s, when bold shapes and contrasting materials were at the forefront of jewellery design.
