Product Overview
Like a starry night sky, this large lapis lazuli gemstone gleams with a highly distinctive deep blue aesthetic complete with golden flecks of pyrite. This magnificent gemstone rests upon a platform and is embraced by a semi-bezel setting that wraps around both the top and bottom revealing the geometrically sloping shoulders. Four round, brilliant-cut diamonds, set in white gold, accent the top of each column created by the shoulder placement. A Euro-shank band acts to support the ring upright on the finger. This beautiful modern vintage circa 1960s ring is expertly fabricated in gold.
The stone is likely an Afghan or Persian lapis lazuli, appreciated for its a deep blue colour that looks like the night sky filled with stars. What sets it apart from other types of lapis lazuli are its unique gold flecks of pyrite that sparkle beautifully. This rock also has very little white calcite, which means its blue colour is more uniform and vibrant. It was so treasured that it was used in some of the most famous artworks and decorations throughout history, including the funeral mask of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Its deep, celestial blue can’t be matched by any other stone, which is why it’s been a symbol of royalty and wisdom for centuries. In fact, it was once more precious than gold to some cultures.
