18K Yellow Gold 2.72 ctw Cabochon-Cut Smokey Quartz and Diamond Ring

A refined 18K yellow gold ring centered by a 2.72 carat oval smokey quartz, bezel set in a distinctive north-to-south orientation. The softly elongated gemstone is supported from beneath by a substantial solid oval bowl, creating a secure, sculptural setting that follows the natural contours of the stone while allowing its warm brown transparency to remain the focal point.

The bowl setting is seamlessly incorporated into a rounded, high polished yellow gold band, giving the ring a smooth, substantial presence on the finger. On either side of the central setting, a small diamond is gypsy set directly into the gold, providing subtle flashes of brilliance that complement rather than compete with the understated beauty of the smokey quartz.

Smokey quartz is the brown to grey variety of quartz, with its distinctive colouration caused by natural irradiation affecting trace elements within the crystal. Its colour can range from an exceptionally pale champagne-brown to deep, almost chocolate or blackish tones. Historically, smokey quartz has been particularly associated with Scotland, where it is known as cairngorm after the Cairngorm Mountains and has been used in Scottish jewellery and decorative objects for centuries.
