Product Overview

Delicate yet full of presence, this lovely yellow gold filigree butterfly brooch showcases exceptional craftsmanship and the lyrical elegance characteristic of early 20th-century goldwork. The butterfly’s body is thoughtfully articulated with a smooth, high-polished head accented by bezel-set sapphire eyes, a softly rounded filigree thorax, and a finely ribbed abdomen, all combining to create a lifelike sense of form and movement. Each wing is an artwork in miniature, crafted with twisted gold wire and open filigree to form an intricate, pierced pattern rich in texture and lightness. The airy design evokes the delicacy of real butterfly wings while highlighting the goldsmith's remarkable skill.

At the top, graceful, high-polished antennae curve outward, each tipped with a prong-set round brilliant cut diamond for a refined touch of sparkle. The brooch is completed with a traditional ‘C’ clasp, a fitting detail that helps place this piece historically. The use of detailed filigree, sapphire accents, and a simple C clasp suggests craftsmanship likely from the late Victorian to early Edwardian period (circa 1890–1915), an era when nature-inspired motifs and intricate gold wirework flourished in fine jewellery. During this time, butterfly imagery symbolized transformation, lightness, and the beauty of the natural world, making such pieces cherished expressions of artistry and sentiment.
