Product Overview

This pendant is custom crafted in 10K yellow gold. Prong-set, from behind, is an almost pure gold (.900) Mexican 20 peso gold coin. The obverse features the Cuauhxicalli Eagle Bowl or, as it is more commonly known, the Aztec Calendar Stone. This large ancient sculpture was believed to be a ceremonial basin whose decorations served as either an astronomical or astrological guide. Historical enthusiasts will undoubtedly be impressed by the intricate level of detail that has been captured from the bowl’s original design, especially the face of Tonatiuh the sun god in the stone’s centre. Appearing beneath the stone are the coin’s denomination, weight and purity in Spanish. The lettering reads: VEINTE Pesos, 15 Gr. ORO PURO. The reverse reads ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS 1959. A narrow separation separates the coin from the 10K yellow gold high polish and rope trimmed frame. The 10K yellow gold box link chain measures 18" in length and has a spring ring clasp.

This coin is old and beautiful. That means it carries more than just the basic gold value. It carries numismatic (coin collector) value as well. The better the condition, the more numismatic value. The Mexican peso was originally released in 1921 in honor of the Centenario, or Mexico’s first century of freedom. It has since become one of the country’s most iconic pieces of currency. This exquisite 20 peso Mexican gold coin is the second largest denomination in the coin series. Produced by the renowned Banco De Mexico, each coin has been finely crafted from 0.4823 troy oz of 90% pure gold. The coin will vary in year and condition based on availability at the time of purchase, issued by Banco de México from 1917-1959. The artwork shown on the 20 peso Mexican coin pays homage to the country’s rich heritage. Proudly depicted on the reverse side of the coin is the official Mexican coat of arms. This stirring emblem depicts the Mexican gold eagle, perched upon a cactus as it uses its powerful beak and talons to subdue a serpent. It is meant to symbolize the ultimate triumph of the good over the wicked, and would ultimately serve as a symbol of hope during their war against Spain. Also inscribed along the upper portion of the coin is the title “Estados Unidos Mexicanos.”
