Product Overview

Fashioned with an elegant elongated octagonal shape, the top of this chic Art Deco ring—circa 1915–1935 and shimmering with old European-cut diamonds—is artfully arranged with rounded corners to create an overall oval appearance. At its centre, a glimmering cobalt-blue octagonal synthetic sapphire glistens in a sleek multi-prong setting, accented at the top and bottom by three old European-cut diamonds awash in white gold. The gently tapered band and double prongs are rendered in yellow gold.

With its bold geometric shapes, intricate designs, clean lines, symmetrical patterns, and vibrant colours, Art Deco remains an iconic period in art and design. Jewellery took on a new form of expression, reflecting the modernity and glamour of the era. The Art Deco era emerged in the 1920s as a response to the industrial advancements and changing societal values of the time, and the movement embraced simplicity in form yet exuded opulence through intricate detailing and luxurious materials.

One notable aspect of Art Deco jewellery is the prevalence of synthetic stones; these gems were favoured by jewellery designers for their versatility and aesthetic appeal. Synthetic stones offered numerous advantages over their natural counterparts, which made them highly desirable to Art Deco jewellers. First, they provided greater design possibilities due to their uniformity in size, shape, and colour. With natural gemstones, designers often had to compromise on certain aspects or carefully select stones to achieve symmetry in their creations. Synthetic stones eliminated that concern by offering consistent characteristics across each stone.

Additionally, synthetic stones allowed for more affordable options without compromising on visual impact. Natural gemstones were precious commodities that were often limited in supply and expensive to acquire. Synthetic stones provided an accessible alternative that allowed individuals from different backgrounds to embrace Art Deco jewellery trends without breaking the bank. The affordability factor contributed greatly to the widespread popularity of both Art Deco jewellery overall and the use of synthetic stones within it.
