Custom-Made 18K Yellow and White Gold Old-European-Cut Diamond Ring, Signed "Cavelti"

This vintage ring has been custom-crafted in 18K gold. A series of high-polished yellow gold narrow bars, resembling bark, are arranged in a sporadic and at times overlapped design to form a slightly domed presentation. One end of the ring curves in a rounded style while the other tapers to a "V." Three of the bars are white gold and are set with 10 diamonds in a combination of three, three and four. A large, 1.20-carat Old-European-cut diamond is centrally prong-set in white gold. The shank splits as it rounds the finger, enhancing the overall design. The inside of the ring is signed "Cavelti." The diamond was primarily cut between 1890 and 1930, and is the precursor to today's modern round brilliant-cut, but is chunkier. It has 58 facets and an open culet. Instead of coming to a point at the bottom, it is faceted with the smallest portion of the point cut off.

Toni Cavelti is a world-renowned master craftsman and artist. Swiss-born, Cavelti opened his first jewellery design and retail operation in Vancouver over 50 years ago. He is consistently lauded for his compelling modernist designs and the dynamism captured in his art. His spectacular jewellery has received international acclaim, from a necklace designed for Queen Elizabeth to four Diamonds International Awards. As a signature designer for Birks, he continued to inspire contemporary designs that are coveted across the country and around the world. In the 1960s and 1970s, he combined nature and geometry in vibrant, bold and joyful designs. The combination of space, reflection, texture and polish create highlights and depth of form.
