Custom-Made Platinum Vintage Ruby and Diamond Ring

A breathtaking tribute to antique design, this custom-made platinum, ruby and diamond ring is centred by an extraordinary 5.33 carat oval cabochon ruby. Rich in colour and beautifully proportioned, the ruby is secured within six refined prongs, allowing its luminous, domed surface to glow with depth and vitality. Encircling the centre stone is an elaborate arrangement of looping ribbons and graceful scrolls, each flowing in various directions to create a fully dimensional surround. These sculptural elements are set with rose-cut diamonds, their softly faceted surfaces lending a romantic, candlelit shimmer. 

Some of the loops are adorned with diamonds not only along the top but also tucked within the inner curves, creating layers of brilliance and unexpected sparkle from every angle. The shank splits elegantly at the shoulders, enhancing the ring’s presence while maintaining balance and refinement. Delicate filigree work fills the open spaces between the curved elements, adding lightness and intricate detail characteristic of fine antique jewellery. Though custom-made, the design draws strong inspiration from late Victorian to Edwardian jewelry, circa 1890–1915, a period celebrated for its elaborate scrollwork, pierced metalwork, and romantic motifs. Platinum rose to prominence during the Edwardian era for its strength and ability to support airy, lace-like designs.

The use of rose-cut diamonds further enhances its antique aesthetic. Rose cuts, which date back to the 16th century and were widely used through the 19th and early 20th centuries, feature a flat base and domed top covered in triangular facets. Unlike modern brilliant cuts, rose cuts emit a soft, glowing sparkle rather than sharp flashes of light, contributing warmth and old-world charm.
