Product Overview

This gentleman's stainless-steel Breitling Chronoliner Swiss-made wristwatch has a 46-mm case diameter, a round black dial, plain bar Arabic numeral markers and white luminescent index hour stick markers and hands and an engraved black ceramic Arabic numeral marker bidirectional rotatable outer bezel with 24 hour markers. It has second minute markers and three silver subdials at the six, nine and 12 o'clock positions. There is a GMT second time zone feature with red-tipped arrow hand and 24-hour indications printed on the inner bezel of the dial, and a date window at the three o'clock position. A scratch-resistant glareproof sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the watch is powered by the Breitling Caliber 24 self-winding automatic COSC Chronometer certified movement which boasts a 42-hour power reserve, beats at 28,800 vph and contains 25 jewels. The watch is attached to a black Aero classic colour rubber strap with stainless deployment clasp signed, Breitling. It has a screw-down case back and is water-resistant to 100 metres. It comes with an instruction manual and the original box. This watch was produced and originally purchased in 2020.

Willy Breitling was approached by the renowned US Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) in 1952 and asked to create a new chronograph for its members. He decided to develop an innovative wrist-worn instrument that would enable pilots to perform all necessary flight calculations, including average speed, distance traveled, fuel consumption, rate of climb or descent, and conversion of miles to kilometres or nautical miles. At that time, calculations required a logarithmic slide rule. Willy Breitling therefore adapted the original logarithmic slide rule of the 1940s Chronomat for aviation purposes and integrated it into a rotating bezel, surrounded by small beads to make it easier to manipulate. The case diameter was fixed at 41 millimetres, which was large for its time; large enough to ensure that all the information provided by the dial would be easy to read. The readability was further enhanced by oversized Arabic numerals filled with radium that efficiently contrasted with the black dial. The name itself is a combination of navigation and timer.
