A lot of jewellery was brought to the marriage of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace. Her career began as a model in New York when she was only 18 years old, and then as an actress on TV, so she needed many pieces of clothing and accessories. Models were expected to bring their own clothes (mostly so they would fit correctly), as well as matching accessories. For TV programs, which were in their infancy at the time, all actors also supplied their own clothing and accessories when possible. If it was a period show, then the network would have to supply the correct pieces, or as close as possible, since the audience didn’t know the difference.
This beautiful yet simple piece was owned by Grace in her late teen years before she left for New York and her new life. It was most likely purchased in downtown Philadelphia, not far from her home.
