Product Overview

Coins of Newfoundland have been legal tender currency of Canada since Newfoundland joined confederation in 1949, and they are now widely collected as pre-confederation coins of Canada.  Many collectors recognize and seek out the much lower mintages produced and the small numbers of coins surviving in high grade conditions.

This ultra rare 1904 Newfoundland silver five cent coin is one of the finest known surviving Edwardian five cent coins of Newfoundland in nearly flawless gem uncirculated condition.  To provide complete confidence to the collector or investor, it has been independently authenticated and graded by PCGS, the largest and most respected third party grading service in the world.  The grade assigned to this coin is Gem Uncirculated 65, meaning it is a well struck coin with nearly perfect surfaces free from scratches, bag marks or other blemishes. The coin is fully brilliant with dazzling original mint lustre rarely found on a coin struck 107 years ago.

The original mintage of 1904 Newfoundland five cent coins was 100,000.  This compares with modern Canadian mintages of about 100 million.  About 50 superb uncirculated examples of this coin are believed to exist, with most of these being part of the small group in which this coin was recently discovered in London, England.  The "H" mint mark indicates the coin was struck at Heaton's Mint.
