Product Overview

When the Royal Canadian Mint first opened in 1908, a very small number of sets containing exceptional examples of Canada's first coinage were struck for presentation to government officials and for collectors. These coins were produced using specially prepared dies with near-perfect detail and a specimen finish. The coins included all five of Canada's denominations of the era: the large one-cent coin, the small five-cent silver coin, the silver dime, the silver quarter and the silver half-dollar.

This is an original 1908 specimen set in the original red leather case of issue. The coins have typical original toning or oxidation as is expected for coins housed in this case for more than a century. The five-cent coin is the maple leaf cross bow variety.
