Product Overview
Theodosius II
Theodosius II was the eldest son of Eudoxia and Arcadius who at the age of seven became the Roman Emperor of the east. He was gentle and scholarly, however he was heavily influenced by his eldest sister Pulcheria who pushed him towards orthodox Christianity. Pulcheria was the primary driving power behind the emperor and many of her views became official policy.
Theodosius had a hand in founding the University of Constantinople in 425 and in supervising compilation of the Theodosian Code (published 438), which codified the laws issued after 312. Theodosius died from injuries suffered during a hunting accident.
