The rare and noble metal platinum is fitting for this memorial tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled with grace and dignity for over 70 years, celebrating her Platinum Jubilee in her final year. The design features the Royal Cypher of Queen Elizabeth II, which combines Queen Elizabeth II’s initials “E II” (Elizabeth II) with her title initial “R” (for Regina, or “Queen” in Latin) and an image of St. Edward’s Crown. The cypher is bordered by acanthus leaves, a maple leaf and a Tudor rose.
The coin has a weight of one ounce of 99.95% pure platinum and is double dated 1952-2022, representing the years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign (released 2023).
The obverse features a new tribute design combining the four effigies of Queen Elizabeth that have graced Canadian coinage since her coronation in 1953. The effigies span from showing the young Queen at the age of 27 at her coronation to the most recent effigy used through her 2022 platinum jubilee in 2022.
