RCM Chinese Lunar $15 Coin and Stamp Set: Year of the Tiger

In 1998, the Royal Canadian Mint introduced the first coin in a 12-year series featuring each of the 12 different Chinese lunar astrology animal symbols. The coins are double-struck frosted proof-quality, struck in sterling silver with a 24-karat gold overlay. This first issue has been one of the most elusive coins for collectors to find and has become widely sought-after and highly valued in the secondary market. Although the mintage was 68,888, most of these coins were purchased in foreign markets, and few coins ever return to Canada for Canadians to be able to complete their collections.

The 24-karat gold-plated central cameo features the tiger. Noble and fearless, tigers are respected for their courage, even from those working against them. The zodiac sign embodies all the character of this powerful and breathtaking animal. A year of the tiger postage stamp is also included in the set.
