The 1935 series was the first series of banknotes of the Canadian dollar issued by the Bank of Canada. The Bank of Canada opened for business on March 11, 1935. Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth (at the age of eight) appears on the $20 banknote, in a portrait based on a Marcus Adams photograph from 1934 for which an engraving was created by master engraver Edwin Gunn of American Banknote Company.
