Rare Canadian Error Coin: Uncirculated Off-Centre Cent Coin
Shipping: $9.99
Product Overview
This rare Canadian error cent coin has been struck off-centre with part of the coin out of the collar, resulting in a dramatic effect. The coin is dated from 1979 to 1983 and is in uncirculated condition.
As a result of modern technology and exceptional quality control at the Royal Canadian Mint, significant error coins are rare in Canada. In fact, error coins like this on a Canadian coin are estimated to be about 100 times scarcer than similar coin in the United States. But with the large volume of coins produced for circulation each year, a few error coins will occasionally escape scrutiny at the mint and make it out to the banks and into the hands of collectors.
How does an off-centre error occur?
As coins are being struck, the blank planchets are automatically fed into the coin press, where they should be perfectly centred between the dies. If a planchet lies partially outside of the dies during striking, it will receive an off-centre strike, leaving a part of the planchet blank with the design extending off the edge of the coin. Each coin struck off-centre is unique.
