Rare Major Error Coin: Uncirculated 1981 Cent Struck on Elliptical Planchet, PCGS Certified Gem Uncirculated MS-64 Red

Product Overview
This extremely rare 1981 Canadian error one-cent coin has been struck on a smaller elliptical blank that was improperly produced in the blanking process. It is extremely unusual for a smaller size irregular blank to be fed into the coining press, and even rarer for the coin to make it through the screening process and find its way out of the mint. The coin is in choice uncirculated condition, and has been independently graded and certified by PCGS as Choice Uncirculated MS-64 Red.
As a result of modern technology and excellent quality control at the Royal Canadian Mint, major error coins are rare in Canada, but with the large volume of coins produced for circulation, a few error coins will occasionally escape scrutiny at the mint and make it out to the banks and into the hands of collectors.
