Product Overview

Since the Royal Canadian Mint opened in 1908, the development of new coin issues has often been achieved through producing experimental test tokens. Although rarely released to collectors, historic test tokens have featured alternate shapes and sizes, experimental metal compositions, new designs and new security features. Some of the most interesting test tokens ever created by the Royal Canadian Mint were produced in 2021 at the Royal Canadian Mint's Research and Development facility in Winnipeg. Three of the six trial types include ultra-high security multi-component composites, which some have speculated may be used for a new five-dollar coin.

This set includes a complete roll (acrylic tube) of 20 brilliant uncirculated examples of the 2021 Type 1 test token. This Type 1 MC4 prototype combines a nickel-plated steel outer ring with a transparent polymer separator, a nickel-plated steel reverse and a copper-plated steel obverse. Each token also features interrupted serrations on its edge and multiple security features including visible and hidden microtext, latent images, and positive and negative embossing.

Includes:
• Roll of 20 RCM 2021 Type 1 Test Tokens
